How do I view these data?

This map displays mobility of men and women superintendents from 2019-20 to 2023-24 based on publicly available data on superintendent transitions. 

Patterns that you may pay attention to are how men or women cluster is certain regions or states, or if/how women superintendents movement patterns differ from men superintendents.

You may click on the map to activate interactive capabilities that allow you to scroll and zoom in/out.   

How do I view these data?

This map displays solely cross-state mobility of men and women superintendents from 2019-20 to 2023-24 based on publicly available data on superintendent transitions. 

Patterns that you may pay attention to include differences in how far men and women move and differences across men and women who move and are interim superintendents.  For example, 5% of all cross-state movers are superintendents who retired in one state, moved to another state and took on a position as interim superintendent.

How do I interpret these data?

Between 2019-20 and 2024-25, the percentage of women serving as K-12 public school district superintendents in West Virginia declined by 7.3 percentage points.

How do I interpret these data?

Between 2023-24 and 2024-25, 19.3% of all K-12 public school districts in Texas experienced a superintendent transition.

How do I interpret these data?

Since 2019-20, 72.2% of K-12 public school districts in North Carolina have experienced at least one superintendent transition.
